TEL to Participate in the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS) for the Future

Tokyo Electron (TEL; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Toshiki Kawai) has announced that it will participate in the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS) for the Future .

The transition to a data-driven society is progressing at an unprecedented speed, as evidenced by the spread of IoT, AI, and 5G, along with the shift to smarter industries, the evolution of autonomous driving, and the emergence of metaverse. In the semiconductor industry that supports the core of this transformation, there are skyrocketing expectations for innovative chip technologies that enable larger capacity, higher speed, superior reliability, and lower power consumption.

Against this backdrop, the UPWARDS program has been created to support the training of students and researchers on whom the future of semiconductor technology innovation depends, as well as to offer greater opportunities for female students and researchers to thrive in the field of science and technology.

The objectives of this program are in line with TEL’s vision to leverage our expertise as an industry-leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer and pursue technological innovation in semiconductors, thereby contributing to the development of a dream-inspiring society. Through participation in this program, we aim to help develop a diverse set of skilled individuals capable of leading the future innovation in semiconductor technology.
